Munich Sports Weekend Preview

The Bundesliga is back after the international break, and all the teams in Bavaria are playing for something, making it an exciting footballing weekend.  Good news for 1860 fans, at least for the rest of season.  Generali Haching are fighting for playoff seeding, and Bayern Basketball take their championship on the road.  Here's your preview.

Last match, last chance

by Simone Sperduto, TMT Sports

Generali Haching will play the last game of the regular season Saturday night in Spergau against CV Mitteldeutschland. It promises to be a open game, first serve at 19:30.  The Bavarians want to secure second place in the Bundesliga and home court advantage until the finals.

Haching could end up being the top seed if VfB Friedrichshafen lose against lowly TV Bühl.  Haching's pursuers SCC Berlin will play away against Netzhoppers and should be tough match for both.

"We must win at least 3-1," said Haching's head coach Mihai Paduretu.  "But both Berlin and Friedsrichshafen have to also win, but we cannot influence their outcomes."  Almost everyone is available for the Bavarians.  Only Leo Dos Santos is doubtful, he has not trained since ten days.

Mitteldeutschland is in 10th place in the league and has to win in order to qualify for the playoff round. "We won against Haching before," said CMV's team manager Peter Kurzawa confidently.  "We have this last chance and I'm sure, my team will do everything to take a victory."

If Haching closes the league at the second place, they will start the playoffs against the 7th team of the German League on Sunday, April 10th, first serve at 17:00 at Generali Sport Arena.

Victory Tour

Bayern Basketball will show off their championship winning team twice on the road for the remainder of the season, starting with Osnabrück on Saturday night.  Dirk Bauermann's club will tip off at 19:30 against the Giro-Live Ballers at sold out KIKxxl Arena.

Back on December 11th, Jonathan Wallace scored 25 points to lead four players in double figures in a 96-68 blowout win at "Munich Square Garden".  The match was well decided going into the 4th quarter, but the Ballers' Jevohn Shepherd gave Munich fits scoring 25 points and could prove dangerous on his home court.  A win will not only exact some revenge, but keep the club close to earning the second promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga.

Bayern have not relaxed despite having nothing to play for the rest of the season.  After practice this week, Bauermann is confident his team will continue to display their winning ways.  "The motivation and the quality that the players have demonstrated remains high.  We are looking forward to this away game against a highly motivated opponent who have their backs against the wall."

The ProA Champs return home next Saturday night to host the Cuxhaven BasCats, tip-off at 19:30 at the Olympia Eissportzentrum.
