This weekend the Odeonsplatz is going to be overrun by foodies. From Friday to Sunday (3-5 August), the finest delectables that the region has to offer will be on display at the Bayerisches Genussfestival (Bavarian Gourmet Festival).

Inside the elegant white tents, which will protect the visitors from both rain and sunshine, wine and cheese tastings will be offered, as well as seminars on a wide variety of gourmet food topics. One of the events that has been announced is a presentation of Lars Müller showing how to professionally prepare fish.

There will be cheese from the Allgäu in south-western Bavaria and wine from Frankonia in the north, as well as demonstrations by well-known local chefs. It has been announced that culinary celebrity Alfons Schubeck has even provided food for the event.

The highlight of the festival might very well be the wines from the "Best of Gold" competition, which annually awards the very best wines from Frankonia's vineyards. On Friday at 2 pm., Bavarian State Minister Helmut Brunner is opening the festivities, and from then until Sunday evening at 10 pm., one of the city centre's most popular locations will be filled with the sounds and smells of the finer things in life.
