Zebras to devour Lions?

Munich Jan 28 - An air of depression hangs heavily over 1860 Munich. They are faced with waning crowds, a long-standing financial meltdown and - more galling for Lions fans -  having to rely on the benevolence of their 'evil big brother' Bayern Munich over debts accrued from the Allianz Arena ground share.

After two consecutive home defeats, 1860 scraped a crucial 1-0 away victory at Osnabrück last time out. This did little to lift the general air of doom and gloom over the financially stricken club.  Quite simply, 1860 have to sell to survive. German U19 international striker Kevin Volland (18), scorer of the precious winning goal last week has already been signed up (and loaned back to 1860) by Hoffenheim.

MSV Duisburg arrive in Munich unbeaten in four games and in midweek reached the last four of the German Cup with a comfortable victory over Kaiserslautern.

1860 coach Reiner Maurer expects a tough game against Duisburg but assured the fans: "after two home defeats, we want to put on a show on for our supporters. The game will be an important test of our strength. We've not conceded many goals at home but the most important thing will be to score more than the opposition.''

The Lions have never lost at home against the Zebras in the 2nd division but on Saturday the odds are heavily stacked against the home side. A draw would be a good result against a side riding the crest of a wave. Duisburg currently occupy 3rd spot 'the playoff position' six points ahead of the home side.
