Mon 21st Jul, 2025

Ronneburg, Thuringia - A relaxing Sunday afternoon at a local swimming pool turned into a medical emergency when a 42-year-old woman suffered severe poisoning after consuming an alcoholic drink purchased from the pool kiosk. She is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, and authorities are investigating the incident.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM at the Sommerbad Ronneburg. Shortly after taking a few sips of her drink, the woman experienced a burning sensation in her throat and nausea, prompting the need for immediate medical assistance. She was transported to a medical facility by ambulance.

As of Monday afternoon, the woman remains hospitalized and is classified as severely injured. Officials from the local police department are looking into the circumstances surrounding the beverage's preparation, which is suspected to have been contaminated with a chlorine-based substance. Witnesses reported detecting a similar odor near the kiosk.

According to police reports, the 42-year-old is the only individual affected by this incident, and no other patrons at the pool have reported health issues. Authorities have clarified that there is currently no evidence suggesting intentional tampering with the drink, which was prepared on-site at the kiosk.

In response to the incident, the kiosk has been temporarily closed while investigations continue. The specific nature of the contamination is still under examination, with forensic analysis expected to take one to two days to complete.

Chlorine is a chemical element commonly used for disinfecting swimming pools due to its efficacy as a strong oxidizing agent. However, its gaseous form can be hazardous, creating unpleasant odors and posing serious health risks. Exposure to chlorine can irritate the respiratory system and mucous membranes, leading to severe health complications.

As investigations proceed, authorities are urging anyone who may have purchased a drink from the kiosk to seek medical attention if they experience any unusual symptoms.
