Tue 27th May, 2025

After a prolonged wait, Meta has officially released a version of WhatsApp for the iPad, marking a significant milestone for users of the widely-used messaging platform. The announcement follows a year and a half since the first beta version was made available to select users, igniting hopes for a full-fledged app.

Rumors about an iPad-specific version of WhatsApp have circulated for quite some time, with Meta initially hinting at its plans over a year ago. The anticipation grew when users noticed a cryptic response from WhatsApp's official account on social media regarding the app's release, indicating that the launch was imminent.

The newly launched app retains all the functionalities available to the iPhone version, including the ability to conduct video and audio calls with up to 32 participants, share screens, and utilize both front and rear cameras. This feature set aims to enhance communication capabilities for users on the larger iPad screen.

One of the notable advantages of the iPad version is its support for multitasking. Users can leverage the iPad's capabilities, such as Stage Manager and Split View, to run multiple applications simultaneously. This allows for a seamless experience where users can interact with the messaging platform while browsing the internet or accessing other apps.

WhatsApp for iPad synchronizes seamlessly with other devices, including iPhones and Macs, ensuring that personal messages, calls, and media remain accessible across platforms. According to Meta, all communications are protected with end-to-end encryption, enhancing user privacy and security. Additional features, such as chat locks, provide users with extra layers of confidentiality for sensitive conversations, particularly when sharing the device.

While the release of WhatsApp for iPad has been met with enthusiasm, users are still eagerly awaiting an iPad version of Instagram, which remains unavailable despite similar demand.
