The Ukrainian President has raised serious concerns regarding the use of Western components in Russian drones, particularly highlighting findings from recently intercepted drones. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, these drones contained over 102,000 parts manufactured abroad, with significant contributions from companies in the United States and Germany.
During a recent statement, Zelensky disclosed that Russian forces deployed a total of 549 weapon systems during a series of attacks, utilizing these foreign-made components. He specifically pointed out that connectors and other essential parts originated from Germany, while also naming a variety of other countries that failed to prevent these supplies, including China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
Zelensky detailed the types of components found in the downed drones, which included converters, sensors, and microcomputers. He noted that microcontrollers for unmanned aerial vehicles are produced in Switzerland, while drone flight control microcomputers come from the UK. This revelation has prompted him to announce plans for new sanctions against the manufacturers of these components.
Furthermore, Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine has submitted proposals aimed at restricting supply chains that support Russia's military efforts. He expressed confidence that allied nations already possess detailed information about the companies involved and the products that need to be targeted, indicating a coordinated response to these findings.
The attacks by Russian forces in recent days have resulted in significant casualties, with reports of five fatalities and numerous injuries. The onslaught included nearly 500 drones and more than 50 missiles, leading to widespread power outages in various regions, particularly affecting the western region of Lviv.
