While you were enjoying the wonderful weekend in Munich, the TMT Sports staff was busy keeping track of sports scores and here's your wrap.

FC Bayern Munich moved up in the table with their 1-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach and stay alive for the qualification spot in next year's Champions League.

TSV 1860 München were told at the beginning of the weekend that they can continue to play the rest of their matches this season.  But the way things have gone, they may wish they can start playing again next season.

Marco Höger scored early, and Aimen Demain late as Alemannia Aachen beat the Lions 2-1 on Sunday and moved past the struggling club on the second Bundesliga table.

"We did not take advantage of our opportunities and thus did not deserve to win the match," said 1860 head coach Reiner Maurer.

Benjamin Lauth scored his team-leading 13th goal for Munich in the 82nd minute.  The team picked up the pace and tried to earn the draw, but it was too late.

The Lions return home to host FC Energie Cottbus on Saturday.  The last time the Lions were in the Allianz Arena they beat Karlsruher SC 5-1.  Earlier that evening it was announced that the club had to pay 8 million Euros to stay alive this season and the next in the Bundesliga.  Kickoff at 13:00.

And now playoffs

Generali Haching defeated CV Mitteldeutschland 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23) in the final regular season game of the Volleyball Bundesliga.  The win clinches the second seed in the upcoming playoffs.

The first set lasted only 21 minutes as the Bavarians dominated from the start to the end by breaking down Mitteldeutschland`s resistance.

In the second set the hosting team reacted, building a lead at the beginning of the set 8-2 mainly due to a series of aces from Mark Siebeck.  Despite rallying back, Haching could not recover and lost the set.

"Mitteldeutschland was strong in the 2nd set," commented Haching head coach Mihai Paduretu.  "They came out aggressive and defended well after the aces from Siebeck.  We didn't play bad, but CVM was better at this point in the match."

The third set started off the same as the 2nd, Haching falling behind.  "We really had to work to get back into the match," said Paduretu.  "Which we did, but we displayed our strong resolve."

Haching came back and won the 3rd set and cruised to victory after winning the fourth and final set.

But there is a cause for concern heading into the postseason.  Max Günthör got injured during the third set and had to be substituted by Roy Friedrich.  Paduretu could not comment more about the injury, he will have to wait for the diagnosis of the medical staff how long the captain will be out.

MVP Paul Carroll won his 8th medal of the season, the most of any player this season, but it remains to be seen how far the team can go without their leader Günthör.

Haching will face Netzhoppers KW Bestensee in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday.  First serve at 17:00 at the Generali Sport Arena.

No Let Down

Coming into the season, point guard Bastian Doreth was not supposed to make a contribution to a team with a national player at his position.  But as the season is close to ending, everyone knows him now.

Doreth hit five treys and scored a season-high 21 points to lead Bayern Basketball to an easy 81-70 win over the Giro-Live Ballers in Osnabrück Saturday night.

The win extends the team's win streak to 21 games.  Despite winning the ProA Championship three weeks ago, Bayern are showing no signs of letting up, winning by double figures their past two matches.

The match started close, as Bayern could only muster a 20-17 lead after the 1st quarter.  But the 1700 fans at KIKxxl Arena witnessed the offensive power and defensive prowess of the champions as the visitors built a 13-point halftime lead.

Bayern grew the lead to 21 points at the end of the third and took the pedal off the gas in the 4th, but the result was never in question.

Jonathan Wallace poured in 14 points and Robert Garrett added 11 points.  The Ballers were led by Aaron Fleetwood who scored 20 points.

Bayern return home Saturday evening, April 9th to host the Cuxhaven BasCats.  Tipoff at Olympia Eissportzentrum is 19:30.

Bavarian Football Round-up

Millvoje Novakovic scored in the waning seconds of stoppage time as 1.FC Cologne beat 1.FC Nuremberg.  'Der Club' missed an opportunity to get closer to a Europa League spot for next season, as 1.FSV Mainz also benefited from a late goal to draw at SC Freiburg 1-1.  Mainz lead Nuremberg by 3 points and the two teams will play on April 24th...

FC Augsburg 1907 beat DSC Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 on Friday night and temporarily took over the top spot in the second division of the Bundesliga.  Goals by Stephan Hain and Lukas Sinkiewicz provided the difference in the match and get the club closer to promotion to the top flight.  However, Hertha BSC reclaimed the top spot with a 2-nil win against SC Paderborn 07 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.  The winner of the second division may come down to the last day of the season, when Augsburg travel to the capital city to take on Hertha...

FC Ingolstadt 04 stayed above the relegation battle for another week with a 2-1 win at FC Energie Cottbus.  Stefan Leitl and Caiuby scored in the 1st half and the team spent the second half holding off Cottbus.  Ingolstadt are now unbeaten in their past 5 matches, not a bad time to start peaking.
