The newly appointed German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, made his inaugural visit to Ukraine alongside his European counterparts during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers held in Lviv. Wadephul asserted that Germany will remain one of Ukraine's staunchest supporters in the ongoing conflict with Russia.

In a recent interview, Wadephul expressed commitment to providing necessary assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing that Germany will continue its support as long as required. He highlighted the importance of understanding Ukraine's needs during his visit and pledged that the international community would take action to ensure a ceasefire is respected while advocating for negotiations to end the war.

A significant topic of discussion at the meeting will be the proposed establishment of an international special tribunal. Wadephul stressed that such a tribunal is essential to demonstrate that acts of aggression will have consequences, reinforcing the notion that no nation should believe it can engage in warfare without repercussions in the modern world.

EU Chief Diplomat Kaja Kallas indicated that the meeting in Lviv would also solidify political consensus regarding the tribunal's formation, which aims to hold Russia accountable for its actions against Ukraine.

Wadephul's visit marks a critical point in Germany's foreign policy, showcasing a unified European stance on supporting Ukraine amidst ongoing hostilities. As the situation evolves, the German government is poised to reaffirm its commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
