In a disturbing incident on the A115 highway near Berlin, a police operation aimed at controlling a group of football fans escalated into violence, resulting in serious injuries to an officer. The altercation occurred during a routine check on supporters of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, who were reportedly en route to a regional league match against Hertha BSC II.

A police spokesperson confirmed that one officer from Brandenburg was severely injured after being caught in a door during the confrontation. Fortunately, he has since been discharged from the hospital but is currently unfit for duty due to the severity of his injuries.

The incident unfolded after police received reports of vandalism at a rest stop in Brandenburg, where graffiti and stickers had been defacing public property. Following this, officers pursued three buses carrying the fans into Berlin.

Upon stopping the buses, several individuals from the group allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on the officers. Authorities conducted identity checks, revealing that 36 individuals--35 men and one woman--were associated with the fan scene of the Thüringer football club.

As a result of the altercation, the buses were escorted back to Thüringen later that night. In light of the events, police have initiated investigations into charges of aggravated assault, attacks on law enforcement officials, and serious breaches of public peace.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety of law enforcement during large gatherings of sports fans, and the potential for violence that can arise from what are intended to be celebratory events.
