US Tourist Injured After Climbing Fence at Rome's Colosseum

Rome, Italy - A 47-year-old tourist from the United States suffered serious injuries after attempting to climb over a fence at the Colosseum in Rome. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon, but details emerged only on Sunday.

According to reports, the tourist, who resides in Taiwan, was eager to explore the iconic landmark and did not want to wait. In his haste, he attempted to scale the fence but became caught on the sharp metal spikes, rendering him unable to free himself.

Witnesses at the scene alerted the authorities, and emergency services responded promptly. Upon their arrival, they discovered the man still trapped and in shock. It took approximately 20 minutes for the rescue team to extricate him from the fence and control the bleeding.

After being freed, the injured man was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical professionals reported that he is not in life-threatening condition, although he received over 80 stitches to close a severe wound in the knee area.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as distressing, with one noting the sight of the man impaled on the railing was particularly harrowing. The tourist was visiting Rome with family and friends, and they had been exploring various attractions prior to the incident.
