New James Bond Game '007 First Light' Set for 2026 Release

Thu 5th Jun, 2025

The iconic character of James Bond will soon return to the gaming world with the upcoming action-adventure title, '007 First Light', developed by the renowned Danish studio IO Interactive. The game, which is set to launch in 2026, will be available on various platforms including Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. A specific release date has not yet been announced.

The initial trailer for 'First Light' presents a fresh take on the legendary spy, introducing a version of Bond that is distinct from his cinematic portrayals. This rendition features a younger Bond at 26 years old, embarking on his journey as a secret agent. The narrative will explore his early days, highlighting his recruitment from the Royal Marines into the MI6.

IO Interactive has built a strong reputation through its successful 'Hitman' series, which focuses on sandbox-style missions allowing players to approach objectives creatively. However, '007 First Light' appears to diverge from this formula, leaning towards a more traditional linear structure centered around storytelling.

In terms of plot, players will follow Bond as he confronts an experienced agent known as 009, described as a master manipulator. The game's storyline involves Bond working alongside his reluctant mentor, Greenway, to thwart a conspiracy and prevent a potential coup following a failed mission against the rogue agent.

Alongside stealth and combat, 'First Light' promises to include high-speed driving sequences, all powered by IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier Engine, which has successfully fueled their previous projects.

This new title is poised to reinvigorate the James Bond franchise in the realm of gaming, creating excitement among fans of the series as they await further details leading up to its release.
