Wed 14th May, 2025

Traffic disruptions are expected in Berlin-Mitte due to a significant UN conference being held at the Federal Foreign Office. Attendees from over 130 nations are in the city for the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025, which commenced on Tuesday. This high-profile event is anticipated to result in extensive road closures and considerable delays for commuters.

The Berlin traffic information center has advised motorists to avoid the area around Werderscher Markt as severe congestion is likely, particularly during rush hour. Previous reports indicated delays exceeding 25 minutes on major thoroughfares such as Unter den Linden and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. Traffic jams have also been noted on Leipziger Straße, Potsdamer Straße, and in the vicinity of Gendarmenmarkt, with commuters experiencing significant obstacles.

Authorities have implemented road closures, which are expected to remain in effect until 5:00 PM. The Berlin police have deployed a substantial presence to ensure safety and manage the situation effectively.

This conference, hosted under Germany's invitation, is being organized in close cooperation with the United Nations and involves participation from various high-level dignitaries, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The discussions are centered around enhancing global peacekeeping efforts and addressing critical international security issues.

As the event unfolds, the local authorities are urging residents and visitors to stay informed about traffic conditions and to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
