A 33-year-old Ukrainian national was apprehended on February 3, 2025, after being discovered traveling without valid documentation on the EuroCity train from Prague to Dresden. The individual reportedly admitted to having been employed illegally in the Czech Republic for the past two years.
Upon his arrival in Dresden, federal police took him into custody, leading to a decision for a two-year entry ban and a subsequent deportation back to the Czech Republic. The transfer to Czech authorities was scheduled for February 4, 2025, around 2 AM.
During the transfer, while en route to the border, the detainee unexpectedly attacked one of the accompanying officers in Hellendorf, using punches. The incident prompted an immediate halt of the vehicle, during which the driver defended against further assaults and attended to the injured officer. Seizing the opportunity, the 33-year-old managed to escape from the scene. The assaulted officer sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
An extensive search operation was initiated, involving a police helicopter; however, initial efforts to locate the fugitive were unsuccessful. It wasn't until approximately 7:30 AM that law enforcement successfully apprehended the suspect in Bad Gottleuba.
The Ukrainian man now faces charges of assaulting law enforcement officers under Section 114 of the German Penal Code. After the completion of police investigations, he was handed over to Czech authorities for deportation.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges related to illegal immigration and the complexities law enforcement agencies face in managing such situations.
