Ufa Relocates from Potsdam to Berlin After 30 Years

The renowned television and film production company Ufa, which has operated from the media hub of Potsdam-Babelsberg for three decades, has announced plans to relocate its headquarters back to Berlin. This decision has elicited regret among officials in Brandenburg, as the move reflects a strategic reorientation within the company.

Brandenburg's Minister of Economic Affairs, Daniel Keller, stated that the relocation is primarily driven by the need to adapt to changing market conditions, which are challenging to address from the Brandenburg location. However, he reassured that Ufa will continue to centralize its Ufa Serial Drama operations in Potsdam, where the production of the popular RTL series "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" will remain, along with its outdoor filming sets.

The announcement, made on Friday, revealed that Ufa will officially move to the capital in 2026. Chief Operating Officer Natalie Clausen emphasized the necessity for the company to be situated in the heart of the city, where creative activity is vibrant and influential. Approximately 130 employees are expected to transition to the new office space at Schöneberger Ufer in Berlin in the first half of 2026.

Currently, Ufa maintains an additional location in Berlin, and it is anticipated that around 40 staff members will stay in Potsdam to continue their work on Ufa Serial Drama, in conjunction with the team behind "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten." This operational shift underscores Ufa's commitment to remain a leader in the television and film production sector, not only in Germany but also within the wider European market.

Ufa is recognized as a prominent player in the production of television, cinema, and streaming content in the German-speaking region. As a subsidiary of Fremantle, Ufa oversees the production activities for the RTL Group, which is part of the Bertelsmann media conglomerate.
