Uber Launches Medical Transport Platform for Healthcare in Germany

Tue 17th Jun, 2025

Uber has introduced a new platform called Uber Health in Germany, aimed at transforming the way medical transportation is managed within the healthcare sector. This initiative is designed to facilitate digital organization of medical transport services, primarily targeting hospitals and healthcare providers.

The introduction of Uber Health is part of the company's strategy to enhance efficiency in medical transportation, which has been characterized as relatively inefficient and fragmented. A spokesperson for Uber indicated that medical transportation systems often operate in isolation, leading to poorly coordinated processes. The new platform seeks to address these challenges by providing a centralized digital solution for planning and managing medical transport.

Uber Health caters to a variety of stakeholders, including hospitals, nursing homes, health insurance providers, and transportation companies. Authorized coordinators will be able to book and manage rides for patients, healthcare personnel, and medical professionals through a centralized dashboard or an API. The service supports both single and round trips, as well as recurring transportation needs, which can be scheduled spontaneously or up to 90 days in advance. The billing process is streamlined, allowing organizations to manage their transportation costs centrally.

Unlike traditional Uber services, Uber Health does not require users to have a smartphone or a customer account. Ride information can be communicated via SMS or automated calls in over 20 languages. For those utilizing smartphones, real-time tracking of rides is available through a provided link.

The platform aims to bridge gaps in healthcare services, reduce missed medical appointments, and improve coordination of discharge transports. Healthcare facilities will have access to analytics on rides, costs, and usage patterns to enhance transparency and operational efficiency.

Moreover, Uber Health intends to provide data analytics capabilities to help organizations analyze and optimize their transport workflows. With comprehensive reports on rides, expenses, and utilization, healthcare processes can be improved, and budgets managed more transparently. The platform is designed to comply with data protection regulations, ensuring that health data is processed only as necessary. Additionally, integration with existing systems is facilitated through the API.

Uber is also expanding its services in other areas. Earlier this year, the company launched rides exclusively for female drivers. Furthermore, Uber Eats is extending its delivery services to more regions in Germany, including cities like Hanover, Aachen, Karlsruhe, and Munich. In Italy, Uber is introducing options for tourists to book helicopter flights (Uber Copter) and boat tours (Uber Boat) through its app along the Amalfi Coast.
