The production of the popular Netflix series 'Emily in Paris' has been tragically interrupted following the death of a crew member. The incident occurred during the filming of the show's fifth season in a hotel in Venice, where the crew was nearing the end of their shoot. A 47-year-old assistant director collapsed on set, and despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

According to local authorities, the assistant director suffered what is believed to be a heart attack. The specific duration of the filming suspension remains uncertain as the team grapples with the shock of the incident.

'Emily in Paris,' starring Lily Collins, is primarily set in Paris, but this season features scenes shot in Italy, including locations in both Rome and Venice. The filming in Venice was originally scheduled to conclude by Monday. Prior to filming in Venice, production had taken place in Rome earlier in May.

The assistant director, who hailed from Venice, had an extensive career in the international film industry, having worked in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He was also known for his literary contributions, having penned poetry and children's stories. The city administration extended its condolences to the grieving family.

This unfortunate event occurs just as Venice prepares to host its annual film festival, set to commence on August 27th, with numerous international celebrities expected to attend, including Julia Roberts and George Clooney. The production team is aiming to complete filming before the festival begins.

Additionally, the show's storyline involving the protagonist's move to Italy has sparked political discussions, with even French President Emmanuel Macron previously expressing his desire for the character to return to Paris, questioning the logic of 'Emily in Paris' being set in Rome.

Complications also arose during earlier filming in Rome due to the concurrent papal conclave, which resulted in a significant influx of tourists around the Vatican, necessitating reshoots of certain scenes. As the production team deals with this recent loss, Netflix has yet to release a statement regarding the future of the show.
