A devastating fire broke out in the early hours at the Marien Hospital located in the Hohenfelde district of Hamburg. The incident resulted in the unfortunate loss of three patients, while over 50 individuals sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. Among the injured, there are 18 individuals classified as seriously hurt and 15 with minor injuries, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the fire department.

The alarm was raised shortly after midnight, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a dire situation, with several patients visible at the windows calling for assistance. Firefighters utilized escape hoods to evacuate patients from the facility, which specializes in geriatric care.

The fire reportedly originated in a patient room on the ground floor, which was engulfed in flames, causing them to burst out of the windows. The fire spread rapidly, affecting the upper floors of the building and creating significant smoke, which led to the evacuation of various sections of the hospital.

Approximately 160 firefighters were deployed to manage the crisis. Patients were rescued using ladders and escape equipment, with many being transported through the hallways with escape hoods to protect them from smoke inhalation. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 20 minutes of their arrival.

The injured patients received immediate medical attention in the hospital's emergency department or were transferred to nearby medical facilities as part of the rescue operation. As of early morning, all rescue efforts had been completed.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the damages incurred.

The Marien Hospital is one of the largest confessional medical facilities in Northern Germany, boasting around 600 beds and treating approximately 93,000 patients annually.
