Traffic Disruptions in Berlin Due to Protests and Festival Activities

Sat 27th Sep, 2025

Berlin is experiencing significant traffic disruptions as a result of ongoing demonstrations and a popular festival. Commuters using the S-Bahn are advised to prepare for crowded trains and various service interruptions. Road closures are also in effect across multiple areas of the city.

This afternoon, a protest against the Gaza conflict is expected to draw tens of thousands of participants, leading to substantial traffic challenges, particularly around the Großer Stern and the Brandenburg Gate, where numerous streets have been closed to facilitate the event.

As a safety precaution, S-Bahn services will not stop at Tempelhof station until later in the evening. This measure was communicated via social media platforms. Concurrently, a kite festival at Tempelhof Field is anticipated to attract a large number of visitors, further complicating the traffic situation.

The traffic information center has issued warnings advising motorists of the ongoing restrictions. Additionally, the Deutsche Bahn has reported train delays and cancellations in the regional network due to ongoing maintenance work, further affecting travel in and around Berlin.

As the day progresses, authorities are urging citizens to allow for extra travel time and consider alternative modes of transportation where possible. With both the protest and festival set to draw large crowds, the likelihood of increased congestion on public transport and roadways remains high.
