Traffic Disruption Continues: Tiergarten Tunnel Closed Again on Monday Morning

Mon 8th Sep, 2025

Berlin commuters face yet another delay as the Tiergarten Tunnel has been closed in both directions due to suspected technical difficulties. The closure, which began early Monday morning, has left many drivers seeking alternative routes.

As the summer holidays come to an end, the timing of this closure poses significant challenges for those heading to work. The exact reasons behind the tunnel's closure remain unclear, with the Traffic Information Center (VIZ), local police, and fire services unable to identify the cause.

According to traffic reports from 'rbb 88.8', a technical malfunction is responsible for the blockage, causing traffic congestion on the Heidestraße in Moabit as vehicles head towards the main train station. A representative from VIZ stated that the closure has been in effect since 6:15 AM, and there is currently no estimated time for when the tunnel will reopen.

In response to the closure, several bus routes have been diverted to accommodate the ongoing traffic issues. This is not the first instance of disruption for the Tiergarten Tunnel; just last week, it was closed for several days after a truck driver, under the influence, missed an exit and became stuck, damaging the tunnel's infrastructure in the process.

As the situation develops, commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for additional travel time. The authorities are actively working to resolve the technical issues to restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.
