Russian Forces Claim Control of Sudscha in Kursk Region

Thu 13th Mar, 2025

Russian military officials have announced the recapture of the small town of Sudscha, located in the Kursk region, which had been under Ukrainian control for approximately seven months. Alongside Sudscha, the towns of Melowoi and Podol have also reportedly been regained. This information was released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

In recent days, Russian troops have reported advancements in their efforts to reclaim territories in Kursk that have been besieged by Ukrainian forces since August 2024. Sudscha has been identified as a significant strategic victory for Ukraine within Russian territory.

As of now, Ukrainian officials have not confirmed the loss of this area. A report from the Ukrainian General Staff indicated that attacks had been successfully repelled. However, the latest morning briefing did not mention the situation in Kursk. Both Commander Oleksandr Syrskyj and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have acknowledged the possibility of withdrawal to protect the lives of Ukrainian soldiers if necessary.

President Zelenskyy had previously characterized the Kursk offensive as a major success in Ukraine's resistance against the Russian invasion. The loss of this territory would be considered a significant setback, as the regions controlled by Ukraine are viewed as critical leverage in any potential negotiations with Russia.
