U5 Line in Berlin Temporarily Closed for Construction Work

Mon 4th Aug, 2025

The U5 subway line in Berlin will be temporarily closed for several weeks due to construction work, affecting travel between the Frankfurter Allee and Tierpark stations. Starting today, commuters will have to rely on a bus replacement service between these two stops.

According to the Berlin Transport Company (BVG), the subway service will also be limited between Tierpark and Biesdorf-Süd, where trains will operate in a shuttle service. The closure is effective immediately and is scheduled to last until September 21.

The construction is part of essential track renovation efforts that had been delayed due to supply chain issues affecting the delivery of necessary materials, specifically switches required for the work. These delays have resulted in the rescheduling of the construction timeline, which was initially planned to commence earlier.

As a result of this closure, passengers are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel, as the bus replacement service may not adhere to the usual subway schedules. The BVG is working to minimize disruptions and ensure that alternate transportation options are readily available.

Travelers can stay updated on the latest information regarding the construction work and any further impact on services by checking the BVG website or their official communication channels.
