Teenager Flees Police in VW Van, Causes Chaos in Ochtrup

Ochtrup - A 16-year-old without a driver's license has caused a significant disruption on Viefhuesweg. On October 5, 2025, at approximately 11:40 AM, police officers were engaged in the documentation of a traffic accident when a white VW van unexpectedly rolled into the accident scene.

Upon being instructed to turn around to allow for the towing of another vehicle, the young driver admitted to lacking a valid license and abruptly shifted into reverse, attempting to evade law enforcement by heading down a rural path.

The officers pursued the van as it sped recklessly through the rural area of Oster. The driver repeatedly accelerated until he veered off the road shortly before reaching Oster, crashing into a ditch.

After exiting the vehicle, the teenager attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the police. He sustained injuries from the collision, necessitating a visit to the hospital for treatment.

The vehicle, rendered inoperable by the incident, required towing. Preliminary estimates place the damage at around EUR5,000.
