Sweden Announces New Archer Artillery Delivery to Ukraine

As peace negotiations surrounding the Ukraine conflict continue, military support for Ukraine remains steadfast, with Sweden recently committing to a significant new supply of artillery systems. This announcement comes amid ongoing tensions and challenges in diplomatic discussions between Ukraine and Russia.

On March 13, Sweden confirmed its intention to deliver 18 additional Archer self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, enhancing the military capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces. Previously, Ukraine had received eight Archer systems from Sweden, and the latest delivery underscores the commitment of the Swedish government to support Ukraine's defense efforts against Russian aggression.

The Swedish Minister of Defense highlighted the effectiveness of the Archer systems in combat situations, noting their reputation for precision and mobility on the battlefield. Reports indicate that Ukrainian forces have successfully utilized these artillery units to inflict damage on Russian positions, contributing to their defensive operations.

The Archer artillery system, equipped with a 155 mm L/52 howitzer, boasts an automated loading mechanism and can achieve speeds of up to 70 km/h, making it a formidable asset on the battlefield. The vehicle chassis is based on the Volvo A30D, a robust and maneuverable platform designed for military applications.

In addition to the Archer howitzers, Sweden is also providing five Arthur radar systems, which are capable of detecting incoming artillery shells. This technology is crucial for improving the defensive capabilities of Ukrainian forces, allowing them to accurately locate and respond to threats in real time, enhancing their overall operational effectiveness.
