E-Bike Market Surpasses Expectations in Germany

Germany is experiencing a significant upswing in the sales of electric bicycles, with the current figures indicating that more E-bikes are being sold than traditional bicycles. This trend is supported by the latest insights from the Zweirad-Industrieverband (ZIV), which suggests that the longevity of E-bike batteries and their components is greater than previously anticipated.

Recent estimates show that the number of E-bikes in Germany reached approximately 15.7 million units last year. This figure marks an increase of over three million compared to earlier projections made since 2014. The total count of bicycles, including both motorized and traditional models, has now risen to around 89 million units across the country.

Despite the existing stock, the market continues to grow, with an annual addition of between four and five million new bicycles in recent years. Detailed statistics regarding sales and production are expected to be released by the ZIV on Wednesday.

The growing popularity of E-bikes can be attributed to various factors, including their convenience and the increasing awareness of sustainable transportation options.
