Summer Schedules: Night Trains from Munich to Rome Suspended
Night train enthusiasts planning a journey from Munich to Rome this summer will face disappointment as the service will be temporarily suspended. Effective from June 9th, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has announced the cancellation of Nightjets operating between Munich and Rome until September 9th. This decision impacts the popular "Nightjet" line Munich - Bologna - Rome (NJ 295/294).
According to ÖBB's official statement on its website, the interruption is due to ongoing construction work south of Bologna and a route closure in Italy. Despite this setback, all other train connections to Italy from Munich will proceed as scheduled, providing some relief to travelers.
Fortunately, alternative night train routes to Italy remain operational, ensuring that passengers can still reach their destinations comfortably. Two viable options are available from Munich: o Munich - Milan - La Spezia (NJ 40295/40235) o Stuttgart - Munich - Venice (NJ 237/236)
These alternative routes are unaffected by the closures in Bologna and will continue to operate according to their regular schedules.
Given the popularity of night train travel, especially during the summer season, travelers are advised to secure their tickets promptly. High demand for seats is expected, so early booking is recommended. Tickets and detailed information about these alternative connections are available from both ÖBB and Deutsche Bahn.
