Fire Incident Causes Flight Disruptions at Stuttgart Airport

Thu 2nd Oct, 2025

Stuttgart Airport experienced significant disruptions to its flight operations due to a fire caused by a cable incident on Wednesday evening. The incident prompted immediate action from emergency services and led to the temporary suspension of all flights.

Following the fire, which occurred in a service building away from the passenger terminals, the airport resumed flight operations on Thursday morning, although travelers were advised to expect ongoing delays and cancellations. By midday, real-time data indicated that approximately 20 departures were delayed and eight flights had been canceled. The cancellations were primarily attributed to aircraft not arriving as scheduled the previous day.

Passengers were urged to stay informed about their flight statuses and to check with their airlines for updates. The airport's website emphasized the importance of regular status checks due to the ongoing situation.

According to airport officials, the fire disrupted parts of the airport's power supply, affecting critical systems such as runway lighting. As a result, all outbound flights were grounded for about an hour on Wednesday evening.

Later that evening, the runway was cleared for landings, and some incoming flights were redirected to alternative airports, including Nuremberg, Munich, and Frankfurt. A few flights were granted special permission to land after the scheduled operating hours.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among passengers due to the fire. However, two firefighters were taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluations after exposure to smoke.

As the situation evolves, the airport continues to work on resolving the issues stemming from the fire incident and restoring normal operations.
