Gipsy Kings: "Music Is a Natural Way of Life"

Authorities in Stade, Lower Saxony, are investigating a mass shooting in which six people lost their lives at a youth assistance facility. The suspected perpetrator, identified as Fatih G., age 45, is believed to have acquired the firearm used in the incident just a week prior to the attack.
According to findings from a public broadcaster's investigation, the suspect reportedly bought a Beretta Model 70 semi-automatic pistol along with 21 rounds of ammunition for approximately 4,000 euros. The transaction is alleged to have taken place at a location on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. The Beretta Model 70, originally developed and manufactured in Italy, is known for its compact design and was commonly used by law enforcement agencies in the past.
The shooting occurred around midday during a scheduled meeting at the youth facility. The Lower Saxony prosecutor's office stated that the suspect opened fire during a case planning discussion, resulting in the immediate deaths of five victims at the scene. A sixth individual succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. The victims included staff members from the facility as well as employees of the regional youth welfare office, comprising four women and two men.
Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled the scene in a high-powered Mercedes-AMG vehicle. However, authorities apprehended him shortly afterward. He is currently held in pre-trial detention as the investigation continues.
Investigation and Possible MotiveA homicide task force has been assembled to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack. Investigators are reviewing evidence, including tips and digital material submitted by the public. The Lower Saxony police have established an online portal for witnesses to upload relevant photographs and videos from the day of the incident.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that a custody dispute may have played a role in the events leading up to the shooting. Officials confirmed that there was an expedited family court proceeding at the Neustadt am Rübenberge District Court. As part of that process, the court ruled that the child's mother and her three-month-old daughter be placed together in a mother-and-child facility. This measure was implemented as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the child's welfare.
The court also determined that both parents would be stripped of health care decision-making rights for their child, preventing them from unilaterally deciding on medical treatments. Both parties have reportedly appealed this decision, and a ruling from the Celle Higher Regional Court is still pending.
As the investigation progresses, the authorities are prioritizing the collection and analysis of witness statements, physical evidence, and digital records to establish a clear timeline of events. The motive remains under examination, with personal and family-related factors among the lines of inquiry.
The community in Stade has begun commemorating the six victims, with local residents and officials expressing condolences and organizing memorials. The incident has raised questions about gun acquisition processes and the existing framework for managing custody disputes where safety concerns may arise.
Police continue to appeal for information that could aid the investigation, encouraging anyone with relevant knowledge or material to come forward through the dedicated online portal.
