Spotify Raises Premium Subscription Prices in Germany

Thu 14th Aug, 2025

Spotify, the Swedish music streaming giant, has announced a price increase for its Premium service in Germany, following similar adjustments made earlier in August across various countries.

Current subscribers are now being informed about the upcoming changes to their Premium subscriptions. The price adjustments affect all available plans. For instance, the 'Premium Individual' subscription will see an increase from EUR10.99 to EUR12.99 per month, reflecting a rise of EUR2. The 'Duo' plan, designed for two users, will now cost EUR17.99, up from EUR14.99. Additionally, the 'Family' plan, which accommodates up to six members, will increase from EUR17.99 to EUR21.99. Students will also face a price adjustment, with the discounted rate moving from EUR5.99 to EUR6.99 per month.

Despite the price hikes, Spotify has assured users that the service's features will remain unchanged. Premium subscribers will continue to enjoy ad-free music listening, offline playback, the ability to select any track, and access to high-quality audio, although the platform does not currently support high-resolution audio. Premium subscribers also have access to an integrated audiobook catalog, which offers 12 hours of listening time per month, limited to the main account holder.

Recently, Spotify introduced a new audiobook feature in Germany. The 'Hörbücher+' add-on allows users to listen to an additional 15 hours of audiobooks each month, totaling a possible 27 hours of audiobook content for those who opt for this feature, which costs an extra EUR9 per month.

New pricing for new customers takes effect immediately, while existing users will be notified via email about the changes. Those who consent to the new terms will have a three-month grace period before the adjusted rates are implemented. This means the new prices will be effective for them starting on or after November 15, 2025. For new users in Germany and Austria, the increased prices have been valid since August 14, 2025.

Spotify has also stated that it reserves the right to cancel Premium subscriptions if users do not agree to the new prices within the stipulated timeframe, which would result in a transition to the free, ad-supported service. The last price increase for Premium subscriptions in Germany occurred in October 2023.
