Örebro - A shooting occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque in the Swedish city of Örebro, resulting in multiple injuries. According to police reports, the perpetrator or perpetrators remain at large, prompting authorities to advise the public to avoid the area.

The police spokesperson, Lars Hedelin, reported that they received an alarm regarding loud noises, with the first emergency call coming in at 1:45 PM. Subsequently, law enforcement and emergency services cordoned off a large area surrounding the mosque.

In an official statement, the police indicated that they had received a call concerning a suspected serious violent crime linked to the mosque. Multiple emergency units were dispatched to the scene to assist.

Witness accounts suggest that an individual reportedly fired four to five shots. A local news outlet, Aftonbladet, reported that several people sustained injuries. Public broadcaster SVT also confirmed hearing multiple gunshots. One eyewitness recounted seeing a man shot as he exited the mosque, with another individual pursuing him and firing several rounds.

Mazen Muwaffak, a police spokesperson, informed the media that two attendees of the mosque were injured in the incident. Initial investigations did not confirm whether the attack was directed specifically at the mosque itself. However, Hedelin later clarified that it appeared to be an isolated case not aimed at the mosque. The involvement of one or more assailants remains uncertain.

A significant police presence has been established at the scene, with reports indicating that seven ambulances are currently on-site. Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the mosque and adhere to the existing safety barriers. According to Aftonbladet, this incident may be connected to ongoing gang conflicts in Sweden.
