Severe weather warnings have been issued for southern Germany, with forecasts indicating rainfall amounts potentially reaching up to 150 liters per square meter in the coming days. Meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD) have predicted intense thunderstorms and heavy downpours, particularly affecting Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
According to the DWD, the most significant rainfall is expected on Saturday, particularly in the regions from Upper Danube to Augsburg, where localized accumulations could reach 80 liters per square meter within a single hour. As the weekend progresses, additional rain and thunderstorms are anticipated on Sunday and Monday, contributing to a cumulative total of 100 to 150 liters of rain over the period.
In the Alpine region, continuous rainfall is expected, with forecasts suggesting similar totals of up to 150 liters per square meter by Monday. This may result in localized flooding in vulnerable areas.
In eastern Germany, heavy rainfall is also projected for Saturday, with regions like Saxony and Thuringia expecting 20 liters per square meter within the hour, and localized areas possibly experiencing up to 40 liters. The rainfall in Saxony is expected to decrease by Sunday, while Thuringia will see the rain subsiding by Monday.
Moreover, northern Germany, particularly Niedersachsen, could experience localized severe weather on Saturday night, with predictions of up to 40 liters of rain per square meter within an hour, and widespread rainfall ranging from 15 to 25 liters.
Residents in Berlin and Brandenburg should prepare for a cloudy day, with isolated showers expected, particularly in southern Brandenburg. The temperatures will reach a high of between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius and will drop to around 13 degrees overnight, with additional rain anticipated in the southeast.
Sunday will bring similar weather patterns, with a largely overcast sky and occasional showers, particularly from Prignitz to Fläming. The day's temperatures are expected to peak at 26 degrees, with nighttime lows again around 13 degrees as the showers gradually diminish.
