Severe Weather Warnings Issued Across Germany

Sun 15th Jun, 2025

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued urgent warnings regarding severe weather conditions expected on Sunday. Regions in the south and east of Germany are particularly at risk, with forecasts indicating the possibility of localized thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms are expected to initially affect the western parts of the country, moving towards the central and later into the southern and eastern regions by the afternoon. Meteorologists have alerted the public to anticipate heavy rainfall, hail, and wind gusts potentially reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour.

In the affected areas, hailstones could measure up to three centimeters in diameter, and rainfall amounts may reach as high as 40 liters per square meter within a short period, with some areas experiencing over 60 liters in just a few hours. This alarming weather pattern signals a stark contrast to the preceding hot temperatures, particularly in the east and southeast, where highs are forecasted to reach between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the western and northwestern regions are expected to see cooler temperatures, ranging from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius.

The threat of severe weather is projected to continue into the night, particularly in the eastern and southeastern regions, although the storms are expected to move eastward during the latter part of the night. Overnight temperatures are predicted to dip to between 17 and 8 degrees Celsius.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of instability. The DWD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.
