The Bavarian region is bracing for a bout of severe weather, with forecasts predicting showers and intense thunderstorms across almost all areas on Thursday. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for violent thunderstorms, particularly highlighting the potential for heavy rainfall, hail, and strong gusty winds.
In Swabia, rainfall could reach between 30 to 50 liters per square meter within six to twelve hours. Similar conditions, though less probable, may affect western Franconia. Southwestern Bavaria might also experience strong thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and stormy gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Daytime temperatures are expected to range from a maximum of 18 degrees Celsius in the Allgäu to 24 degrees Celsius along the lower Danube.
Specific Warning for Munich
The DWD has specifically warned Munich residents of impending severe weather conditions starting Thursday evening. The forecast includes strong thunderstorms and squalls with wind speeds up to 70 kilometers per hour, along with heavy rain and hail. The weather service advises residents to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities during these conditions.
The DWD has cautioned about the dangers posed by falling branches, flying debris, and flooding of streets and underpasses. Drivers are particularly urged to adjust their driving habits, steer clear of flooded areas, and avoid vulnerable sections such as underpasses.
Weather Outlook for the Following Days
The forecast for Friday suggests a rainy start with temperatures between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius. However, conditions are expected to dry up near the Alps and parts of Lower Bavaria by the afternoon. In northern Bavaria, the rain is predicted to taper off on Saturday, though isolated showers or thunderstorms may still occur in the Alpine regions.
Residents and visitors in Bavaria are advised to stay updated with weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of severe weather.
