Security Alert at Munich Oktoberfest Following Bomb Threat and Antifa Connection

Wed 1st Oct, 2025

The Munich Oktoberfest is currently closed due to a bomb threat, prompting a significant police response. This decision follows reports of an explosion in a residential building nearby, where explosive devices were reportedly discovered.

Authorities have confirmed that a seriously injured individual was found in proximity to the blaze, believed to be connected to the incident. Unfortunately, this person has since succumbed to their injuries. A letter allegedly authored by the suspect contained threats of a bombing at the Oktoberfest, leading to its closure at least until 5 PM, while thorough explosive detection efforts are conducted.

In the wake of these events, speculation arose regarding potential ties to leftist groups, particularly following the publication of a statement on the Indymedia website. This document, which has since been removed, claimed responsibility for recent arson attacks and warned against the rise of right-wing extremism in Germany.

Local police are investigating the situation, but have indicated that they believe the incidents may stem from a familial dispute rather than a coordinated attack from extremist groups. A spokesperson clarified that while all leads are being pursued, there is currently no active investigation focused on the Antifa group.

Following the bomb threat, officials urged the public to vacate the festival grounds as security measures are heightened. The police set up a designated area for search operations and are implementing additional protective actions.

In light of the serious nature of the threats, the Oktoberfest will remain closed while authorities conduct their investigations and ensure the safety of all attendees.
