In the ongoing investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy on a playground in Menden, Sauerland, authorities have apprehended a second teenager on suspicion of murder. This development follows the earlier arrest of a 17-year-old male who was charged with the same offense.

According to the spokesperson for the Arnsberg public prosecutor's office, the newly detained 16-year-old suspect, who is reportedly of Syrian descent, was taken into custody on Friday evening. He is now being held under the suspicion of being an accomplice in the murder.

The tragic incident occurred shortly after midnight on May 10, when a dispute involving multiple individuals escalated, leading to the fatal attack on the young victim, who succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crime and are treating the case as one of joint murder, with a focus on the involvement of both teenagers. Officials have indicated that there may be additional suspects, although no further details have been disclosed at this time.

As part of the investigation, numerous pieces of evidence have been seized, and the authorities are currently analyzing a knife believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing.

The autopsy of the deceased is already underway at a forensic facility in Dortmund, but the results have not yet been made public.

In a related development, a 17-year-old who was also injured during the altercation has since been released from the hospital after sustaining serious injuries, although he was never in critical condition. Investigators are still working to determine the exact nature of his injuries and the events leading to them.

Law enforcement is also focused on establishing the total number of individuals present at the playground at the time of the incident.
