Tue 13th May, 2025

Saarbrücken authorities are investigating a significant case of telephone fraud that resulted in a substantial financial loss for a local resident. On May 12, 2025, a 59-year-old woman fell victim to an elaborate scam that involved impersonation of law enforcement officials.

The incident occurred around 2:15 PM when the victim received a call from individuals posing as police officers and judicial officials. The scammers claimed that the woman's daughter had been involved in a fatal traffic accident, asserting that a high bail amount was necessary to prevent her from being incarcerated.

In a state of shock and alarm, the victim proceeded to a designated address on Feldmannstraße, where she handed over cash and valuables to a woman at approximately 4 PM. The total value of the items surrendered is reported to be in the mid five-figure range.

The local police department is currently seeking witnesses who may have observed any suspicious activity in the Feldmannstraße area between 3 PM and 5 PM on that day. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the LPD 241 at 0681-962-2530.

The woman who received the money has been described as standing between 165 cm and 170 cm tall, possessing a slim build, and sporting shoulder-length blonde hair in a bob style, which may have been a wig. She was last seen wearing tight brown leather pants, a dark short jacket, and reflective sunglasses.

This incident highlights the rising concern over telephone scams targeting vulnerable individuals, often utilizing emotional manipulation to achieve their goals. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and to verify any claims made over the phone that seem suspicious.
