Significant Disruptions in S-Bahn Service Across Berlin Due to Ongoing Repairs

Berlin's S-Bahn service is facing considerable disruptions as repairs are underway across seven lines, with significant impacts expected to last until Monday. The transport company announced the situation on Thursday, detailing that multiple repair sites are contributing to delays.

Issues at key stations such as Westkreuz and Friedrichshagen are particularly affecting the S3, S5, S7, and S9 lines. Specifically, a malfunctioning signal at Westkreuz and unspecified repairs at Friedrichshagen are causing notable delays. Passengers should be aware of the following service changes:

• The S3 line is operating every 20 minutes between Erkner and Friedrichshagen and between Friedrichshagen and Ostbahnhof. Additionally, the supplementary services for S3 have been suspended.
• The S5 line now runs from Strausberg Nord/Hoppegarten to Charlottenburg, instead of its usual route to Spandau, and will operate every 10 minutes between Hoppegarten and Ostbahnhof, with supplemental services also suspended.
• The S75 line is offering service on a shortened route between Wartenberg and Warschauer Straße, maintaining a frequency of every 10 minutes.
• The S26 line is terminating early at Pankow, bypassing Blankenburg due to ongoing construction work.

In addition to these disruptions, the S1 and S8 lines have been affected since Wednesday due to a faulty signal box in Hohen Neuendorf. The S1 line will run every ten minutes between Wannsee and Frohnau and every 20 minutes between Birkenwerder and Oranienburg until Monday morning. Bus replacement services are in place between Frohnau and Birkenwerder, with a frequency of every ten minutes during the day and every fifteen minutes on weekends at night.

To accommodate the ten-minute intervals on the S1 between Wannsee and Frohnau, the S85 line will only operate up to Waidmannslust instead of continuing to Frohnau.

Meanwhile, the S8 line service will persist until Monday between Wildau/Grünau and Mühlenbeck-Mönchmühle, with bus replacements running every 20 minutes between Mühlenbeck-Mönchmühle and Birkenwerder.

Travel times are expected to increase by approximately 20 to 30 minutes due to these ongoing issues. The electronic signal box at Hohen Neuendorf, which had been operational since spring 2024 and had functioned reliably until mid-2025, has recently experienced consistent malfunctions leading to these service interruptions.
