Russian Forces Advance on Lyman: Latest Developments from Ukraine
Recent reports indicate that Russian military units have achieved additional territorial gains in the northeastern region of Donetsk, specifically near Lyman. According to the latest situation report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), geolocated video evidence has confirmed the capture of the settlements of Iwaniwka and Terny by Russian forces.
Further south in the town of Chasiv Yar, intense street fighting has been reported. Footage from the area suggests that Ukrainian troops have successfully recaptured lost positions in the city center, while Russian forces continue their advance in the western part of the town. Ukrainian military sources claim to have repelled several Russian assaults on an industrial facility located in the city center, although this information has not been independently verified by the ISW.
The situation remains equally contested around the mining town of Torezk, where Ukrainian soldiers have regained control over positions southwest of the city. However, Russian units have made advances to the north and west of Torezk. The ISW's assessment of the conflict is supported by geolocated video materials.
Moreover, Russian soldiers have reportedly made minimal advances near the nearly encircled settlement of Velyka Novosilka, as well as around Kurakhove and northeast of Kupiansk close to the Ukrainian-Russian border. On the Russian side of the border, in Kursk, Russian forces have pushed Ukrainian troops back south of Sudzha.
Due to the ongoing conflict, information regarding casualties and military successes from both parties remains challenging to verify independently. The front lines depicted in the ISW reports are based on data from the U.S.-based think tank, which has outlined its methodology for assessing the situation.
The provided maps illustrate areas currently under Russian control or where Russian military operations are taking place, highlighted in red. Areas regained by the Ukrainian military since the onset of their counteroffensive are marked in blue. Changes from the previous day are highlighted in darker shades. Additionally, the maps indicate zones where particularly intense combat operations occurred within the last 24 hours, as well as locations where Russian occupation forces have established defensive structures.
