In a fresh bid to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russia has extended an invitation to Ukraine for a new round of negotiations scheduled for this coming Monday in Istanbul. This announcement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by the state news agency Tass. The Russian delegation is prepared to present a memorandum outlining Moscow's stance on the key issues contributing to the crisis.

However, Ukraine has promptly insisted on receiving the memorandum prior to the meeting. Andriy Sybiha, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, expressed on social media that they expect the Russian side to uphold its commitment and provide their proposals without delay, as previously agreed upon.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov confirmed that he has already shared a document detailing Ukraine's position with the Russian chief negotiator. He emphasized that Ukraine remains open to further discussions with Russia, contingent on receiving the anticipated memorandum. Umierov accused Moscow of causing further delays and reiterated Ukraine's readiness for a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for increased international pressure on Russia to end its aggressive actions, stating that he has not observed any willingness from President Vladimir Putin to negotiate. During an interview, Zelenskyy noted that while the United States is engaged, it is not fully committed, and other countries, particularly from the Global South, are not taking a definitive stance.

He remarked on the necessity of a just peace, although he acknowledged that it may not be achievable until after Putin's tenure. Nonetheless, he believes an interim peace could commence immediately, starting with a ceasefire followed by further actions towards lasting peace.

On the U.S. front, President Donald Trump has expressed hesitance regarding new sanctions against Russia but has issued an ultimatum to Putin. He indicated that the U.S. would evaluate whether Russia is being deceptive, implying that a different response would follow if deception is confirmed. Trump conveyed his disappointment regarding recent violent incidents occurring during ongoing negotiations, highlighting the need for effective diplomatic engagement.

As the conflict continues, experts are concerned about potential escalations. Reports indicate that Russia has amassed approximately 50,000 soldiers in preparation for a possible offensive in northeastern Ukraine, particularly in the Sumy region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones have reportedly caused disturbances in Moscow, leading to temporary shutdowns at Vnukovo Airport due to incoming drone activity.

In related developments, Germany has pledged support to Ukraine in the production of long-range missiles. Following a meeting with President Zelenskyy in Berlin, Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed Germany's commitment to facilitate the production of advanced weaponry. This cooperation was further solidified during discussions between the defense ministers of both nations.

Germany's provision of military support has drawn criticism from Russia, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accusing German officials of exacerbating the conflict. In response, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul firmly rejected these allegations, asserting that Russia's actions are the true drivers of warfare, and emphasized the need for both parties to engage in constructive dialogue.
