Significant Damage from Multiple Fires in Rostock Area

Rostock - A series of fires in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have led to substantial property damage, totaling an estimated EUR340,000. The incidents began around 3:00 PM when a straw baler caught fire in a field near Blievensdorf. Authorities reported that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure. The smoke from the blaze caused visibility issues on the nearby A24 highway, prompting police to temporarily close the truck lane. Traffic resumed normal conditions by approximately 3:30 PM.

The fire department was able to extinguish the flames; however, the straw baler was deemed a total loss, incurring damages estimated at EUR85,000.

Shortly after, at around 4:30 PM, another fire broke out in a former cow shed located in Langen Brütz, where a significant amount of straw bales was stored. The building, measuring 35 by 55 meters, was rapidly engulfed in flames. More than 50 firefighters from the surrounding region responded to the scene and worked diligently to bring the blaze under control. The fire was extinguished by approximately 7:40 PM. The facility housed about 400 straw bales, and fortunately, no livestock was harmed. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) provided support during the firefighting efforts. The damage from this incident is estimated at EUR240,000. The criminal police have launched an investigation into the possibility of negligent arson.

Additionally, around 5:00 PM, a fire broke out involving hay bales on a trailer in Wittenburg. The tractor driver noticed the fire in a timely manner, preventing further escalation. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames by 8:30 PM. The damages from this fire are estimated at EUR15,000, and the cause remains under investigation.

Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could lead to such dangerous incidents. The local fire departments continue to work hard to ensure community safety and prevent future occurrences.
