Restaurant Review- Kilian's Irish Pub
Kilian's Irish Pub, a piece of Ireland in the heart of Munich.
This traditional Irish pub is situated about a minute's walk away from Marienplatz, just behind the famous Frauenkirche on Frauenplatz. Although the small beer garden outside seems inconspicuous at first, from the moment you step inside you feel like you are entering an establishment 800 miles away in Dublin. The inside is very Iirsh, the walls are decorated with brewery advertising mirrors making a perfect match for the traditional vaulted ceiling and the Guiness and Magners is always flowing. The bar staff are very friendly and when I ordered a Magners, my pint glass was filled to the brim with cold and delicious cider. To complete my Irish experience, I ordered fish and chips. My battered cod tasted fresh and had been cooked in a crisp, light batter. Vinegar and HP sauce on the table complimented my hand cut chips perfectly. Kilian's offers live music nearly every day from traditional Irish folk to funky rock'n'roll. Plenty of english speaking guests frequent this pub in the heart of Munich, along with a more traditionally bavarian crowd. I believe it shows how well the two cultures can go hand in hand, giving the place a quaint and unique atmosphere. The combination of Irish gastronomic delights with live music made my evening very original. Upon stepping back outside the establishment, the impressive Frauenkirche was aptly placed to remind me that I was actually in Munich and not, in fact, facing St. Patricks Cathedral in Dublin!
