On September 7, 2025, a significant operation will take place in Preetz, where a 250-kilogram World War II-era bomb will be safely defused. Approximately 1,960 residents are required to evacuate their homes as a precautionary measure.
The unexploded ordnance, identified as an American bomb with a tail fuse, was discovered by the ordnance disposal service on a site between Preetz and Wakendorf. Experts have assessed the situation and confirmed that the bomb is in stable condition, with no immediate danger of detonation.
A decision was reached to proceed with the defusing operation on Sunday afternoon during a meeting involving law enforcement, fire department officials, city administration, and other relevant agencies. Residents must vacate the designated area by 11:00 a.m. to ensure their safety. In conjunction with the evacuations, the police will implement road closures, including sections of the B76 between Lange Reihe and Kieler Straße, along with parts of Wakendorfer Straße and Rethwischer Weg. Traffic will be redirected through the town center.
The defusing process will commence as soon as the area is cleared. Residents are advised to prepare for the operation to take several hours, and they should ensure they have sufficient food, water, and necessary medications during the waiting period. An alternative shelter will be available from 9:00 a.m. in the school cafeteria located at Hufenweg 5, 24211 Preetz.
Individuals needing assistance to leave their homes can contact the city's service hotline at 04342/303444. This number will be operational on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday until 11:30 a.m. Flyers will be distributed, and emergency alert applications will be used to keep the public informed. Additionally, social media platforms will be leveraged to reach the affected population. Public transport services will also provide updates regarding any changes on their websites.
The police department will continuously update the public through their Facebook page "Polizei Kiel und Plön" to ensure everyone stays informed about the situation.
