Authorities responded to an emergency call reporting an armed individual at the Altenerding S-Bahn station near Munich on the evening of May 3. At approximately 7:10 PM, officers arrived at the scene to find a 31-year-old man wielding a knife on the platform.
Despite requests to drop the weapon, the suspect advanced towards the officers, prompting them to discharge several warning shots. The man, however, did not heed the warnings, which led to one of the police officers firing a shot aimed at the suspect's legs.
The gunfire struck the man in the thigh, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. According to police reports, his condition is stable.
The incident caused significant disruption to train services in the area, with the Deutsche Bahn confirming that the track between Markt Schwaben and Erding was closed for approximately three and a half hours. This disruption primarily affected the S2 line serving the Munich area.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident, and further details are expected to emerge as the situation unfolds.
