Plainclothes Police Officers Attacked with Projectiles During Attempted Mediation at Kottbusser Tor

On Saturday evening, an incident at Kottbusser Tor escalated when plainclothes police officers attempted to intervene in a dispute between two groups. The altercation, which initially began as a verbal disagreement, quickly intensified and threatened to become physical.

According to authorities, the officers were monitoring the area at approximately 22:45 when they observed the situation deteriorating. As the officers identified themselves and attempted to de-escalate the confrontation, they proceeded to detain one individual suspected of involvement in the dispute. During this process, the suspect reportedly struck an officer in the face and attempted to flee the scene on a bicycle. He was apprehended a short distance away after resisting arrest.

Following the arrest, a group of approximately ten individuals associated with the detained person began to throw stones and bottles at the officers. One officer sustained injuries to his head, hand, and leg as a result of the attack and was later relieved from duty to receive medical attention. Additional police units were dispatched to the location, prompting the group to disperse on foot.

During the subsequent investigation, police collected the thrown objects as evidence. A search of the arrested individual revealed the presence of a substance suspected to be an illegal narcotic. Further checks indicated that the individual was subject to a restraining order prohibiting him from remaining in the area.

Authorities have initiated criminal proceedings against the suspect and those involved in the incident. The allegations include aggravated breach of the peace, attempted prisoner liberation, assault on law enforcement officers, causing bodily harm, violations of narcotics regulations, and non-compliance with a restraining order.
