Sun 25th May, 2025

Saarbrücken, Saarland - Authorities are actively searching for an individual who has been vandalizing parking meters by injecting them with a corrosive substance. This troubling behavior has been reported since April, as the perpetrator has targeted multiple locations in the region.

The modus operandi has been consistent: the suspect sprays a harmful liquid into the card and receipt slots of parking meters, severely damaging the machines. To date, seven parking meters have been affected, leading to significant financial losses for parking operators, who are now faced with costly repairs and reduced revenue.

In addition to the property damage, at least one incident has resulted in injury. A person came into contact with the caustic substance and experienced skin irritations, prompting law enforcement to escalate their investigation. They are pursuing charges for property damage and aggravated bodily harm.

The situation has drawn attention not only due to the physical impact of the attacks but also because surveillance footage has captured the suspect during some of the incidents. The Saarbrücken District Court has authorized the release of these images to aid in the public identification of the individual responsible.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect to come forward. Witnesses or individuals who can identify the person depicted in the released photographs are encouraged to contact the Saarbrücken City Police Station at 0681/9321-233.

No detailed description of the suspect has been provided by law enforcement, but the released images depict a man likely of older age, wearing a light-colored baseball cap, possibly beige or light gray.

As the investigation continues, authorities are keen to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. The community's assistance will be crucial in apprehending the individual responsible for these reckless acts.
