In a coordinated operation on Wednesday morning, law enforcement authorities conducted extensive searches across Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt as part of an investigation targeting human trafficking and unlawful prostitution. Approximately 500 police officers were deployed to execute search warrants at 38 residential and commercial premises, including several properties suspected to be used for prostitution.
The operation was spearheaded by the Magdeburg Public Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Police in Halle (Saale). Assisted by the Saxony-Anhalt State Criminal Police Office, officers searched locations in cities such as Magdeburg and Halle, as well as in the Jerichower Land, Harz, Salzland, Börde, and Anhalt-Bitterfeld districts. Berlin also saw a significant police presence as part of the operation.
Authorities suspect that a group of individuals, including several German nationals and at least one person of Asian descent aged between 27 and 40 years, were involved in smuggling women from Asian countries into Germany. The investigation alleges that these women were brought into the country illegally with the intention that they would work in prostitution to pay off debts incurred as part of their smuggling arrangements.
According to police reports, the women were likely subjected to exploitative conditions, compelled to engage in sex work in order to settle the costs of their illegal entry into Germany. The searches focused primarily on properties believed to serve as brothels or accommodations for the women involved. Investigators are examining evidence collected during the raids to establish the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and to identify additional suspects and victims.
During the operation, the suspects were taken in for questioning. At the time of reporting, there had been no arrests, but authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing and further measures may be taken as new evidence comes to light.
This large-scale action reflects a broader effort by German law enforcement to combat human trafficking and illegal prostitution, particularly cases involving the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for financial gain. Investigators are working to clarify the structure and operations of the suspected network, including how women were recruited and transported, as well as the conditions they faced upon arrival in Germany.
Police and prosecutors have emphasized their commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of victims of human trafficking. Support services are expected to be made available for those affected as the investigation progresses. Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in dismantling criminal trafficking operations and safeguarding those at risk of exploitation.
