The Klitschko reign of dominance in the heavyweight boxing division remains unchanged after elder brother Vitali comfortably dispatched with Polish challenger Tomasz Adamek in Wroclaw on Saturday night.
In the 10th round the referee decided to put an end to the brutal punishment that Adamek was absorbing and with it an end to his world title challenge.
It was a courageous effort from Adamek who was largely unable to avoid the powerful jab of Klitschko's leading left hand and ultimately it was that jab that wore him down. With a clear reach advantage, Klitschko was able to keep his adversary at arm's length and persistently knock him around at will. To say the contest was one-sided would be an understatement. The challenger was completely outclassed.
Credit to Adamek and his granite like jaw though. He stayed on his feet through much of the battering and looked as though he could have just about survived the full 12 rounds if allowed to continue. The champion himself also commented. "I controlled the fight but a couple of times I hit him and I was surprised. He has a good chin."
After that victory for Klitschko comes the question on everyone's lips: who will he fight next? The talk in boxing circles is that David 'The Hayemaker' Haye will have another opportunity to get back in the ring after his defeat to Vitali's younger brother Vladimir earlier this year.
Vitali has already spoken of his desire to knock Haye out after taking personal offence to Haye's publicity stunts in the build up to that fight. Haye has offered himself up for the fight by postponing his self-imposed retirement date if either Klitschko is willing to take him on. If both camps can agree a deal we could see Haye make a title challenge in England next year.
