Pilot Missing After Bundeswehr Helicopter Crash in Saxony

A Bundeswehr helicopter has tragically crashed over the Mulde River in Saxony, with emergency services mobilized in a large-scale rescue operation. The incident occurred between Golzern and Trebsen, in close proximity to Grimma.

According to sources from security circles, both the helicopter and its pilot, along with potential crew members, are currently unaccounted for. Debris from the aircraft has been reported floating in the river, prompting immediate action from local firefighters and police.

Witnesses, including paddlers on the Mulde River, discovered parts of the helicopter and alerted authorities. The crash site is situated near the A14 motorway connecting Dresden and Leipzig, raising concerns for the safety of the area.

Authorities have confirmed that the cockpit of the helicopter is visible in the water, although information regarding the pilot's condition remains undisclosed at this time. In response to the incident, the police have cordoned off the crash area, designating it as a military exclusion zone, and have prohibited photography to secure the site.

Police spokesperson Susanne Lübcke stated that the search for the crew is ongoing, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Initial reports indicate that paddlers noticed the wreckage around 11:30 AM and promptly contacted the police.

A joint operation involving the fire department, federal police, and water rescue teams is currently underway to recover the downed helicopter. Additionally, a no-fly zone extending two nautical miles (approximately 3.74 kilometers) around the crash site has been established to ensure the safety of ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
