Bizarre Drug Raid in Peru: Officer Arrests Dealer in Capybara Costume

Sun 16th Feb, 2025

Lurín, Peru - In a striking display of unconventional law enforcement, authorities conducted a raid that led to the seizure of over 1,700 packages of cocaine and marijuana. The dramatic operation unfolded on Valentine's Day, featuring an officer dressed as a capybara, a large rodent native to South America, who apprehended a suspected drug dealer.

Footage from the incident captures the officer, clad in a capybara costume complete with a bright green turtle-shaped backpack adorned with red hearts, as he storms into a residence. The video shows the officer tackling a man to the ground and securing him with handcuffs.

Following the arrest, the officer posed for a photograph alongside the apprehended dealer, with a table in front of them displaying the confiscated drugs. The Peruvian National Police reported that this operation was part of a broader strategy employed by their Terna unit, which specializes in undercover work in high-crime areas.

The Terna unit is known for its innovative approaches, often deploying officers in disguise to blend into criminal environments effectively. This tactic has proven successful, as demonstrated by the recent operation that resulted in the capture of a drug dealer in the act of committing a crime.

According to the police, the raid in Lurín successfully uncovered over 1,700 packages containing cocaine base paste and marijuana. The unique method of using costumes, including the capybara attire, is a hallmark of the Terna unit's approach during festive occasions such as Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Christmas.

Reports indicate that officers have previously donned costumes of popular characters like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor to carry out similar operations. In a noteworthy Christmas raid last year, an investigator dressed as Santa Claus used a hammer to break down a door to apprehend two suspects involved in drug trafficking.

The Terna unit's creative strategies highlight a commitment to combating drug-related crime in Peru, where the trafficking of narcotics remains a significant issue. The recent raid is just one example of the ongoing efforts to disrupt and dismantle drug operations in the country.
