Outrage in Ukraine as Russian Soldiers Display U.S. Flag on Military Vehicle

Mon 18th Aug, 2025

Recent reports from the front lines in Ukraine have sparked significant outrage from Ukrainian officials after a video surfaced, allegedly showing Russian soldiers hoisting the United States flag on a military transport vehicle. The footage, released by the Russian state-funded broadcaster RT via Telegram, claims to depict a captured M113 personnel carrier adorned with both Russian and U.S. flags.

The authenticity of the video and its context remain unverified. Observers noted that later segments of the original footage do not feature the flags as the vehicle traverses different areas, raising questions about the circumstances under which the flags were displayed.

This provocative imagery coincided with a recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, amplifying the implications of the message. The Kremlin's intentions behind disseminating such content appear to send a signal of perceived solidarity between Russia and the United States, which many view as an affront.

Ukrainian officials reacted swiftly to the footage, with Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian President's Office, labeling the act as "shameless." Yermak condemned the use of American symbols by Russian forces, characterizing it as an exploitation of U.S. imagery amid what he termed a "terrorist, invasive war."

As tensions continue to escalate, the U.S. is set to host a summit later today to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. President Trump is expected to first engage in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before holding talks with European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

In the lead-up to this summit, Trump expressed his intention to pursue a peace agreement rather than a ceasefire, indicating that hostilities in the region are likely to persist. He has urged Zelensky, stating that the Ukrainian leader could end the conflict almost immediately if he chose to do so, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.
