OpenAI Introduces Connectors for Enhanced Access to Cloud Storage and Research Tools

Thu 5th Jun, 2025

OpenAI has unveiled new workplace features for ChatGPT, allowing users to connect directly to various data sources including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and SharePoint. These enhancements are part of a beta release aimed primarily at enterprise clients, alongside the introduction of a meeting recording mode designed to facilitate collaboration and information management.

With these connectors, users can seamlessly access and analyze information stored in cloud services. For instance, a sales representative can utilize a Box connector to directly pull quarterly sales data from PDFs or spreadsheets into ChatGPT for structured analysis. This feature is designed with customizable permissions and sharing options, promoting the accessibility of organizational knowledge. OpenAI has emphasized its goal of transforming ChatGPT into a comprehensive platform that unlocks the collective intelligence within organizations.

In addition to standard connectors, OpenAI is rolling out Deep-Research connectors that possess advanced capabilities, enabling users to conduct multi-step research autonomously. These connectors will also support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a framework developed by Anthropic that is gaining traction among other AI providers including Microsoft and Google. This protocol aims to standardize the flexible and open expansion of AI models, further enhancing the functionality of ChatGPT.

Currently, these connectors are available for users of ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Edu. The new recording mode allows for the transcription and structuring of meetings and discussions, enabling users to convert recorded content into actionable insights. This feature, however, is exclusive to team users of ChatGPT.

According to OpenAI, the company has successfully onboarded three million paying enterprise customers, indicating a significant demand for these advanced functionalities in the business sector.
